Bogie Bolster Wagon Information
Bogie bolster wagons or flat cars were also regular sight on the main line up to the seventies. Code-named "Macaw", the Bogie Bolsters were designed to carry long loads such as pipes; rail sections or telegraph poles. Lengths varied over the years and capacities could typically be between 20 to 50 tons.
The Phoenix Flat Car uses a similar method of construction to the original Macaws with the main side frame and cross members supporting the load. The exterior grade laser cut plywood floor adds extra strength and rigidity. The wagon comes with a laser cut and assembled chassis finished in a light grey powder coating.
The bogies are simple assembly with laser cut side frames, welded bolster frames and wheel sets with roller bearings for smooth free running. Clevis clips are provided at both ends for secure coupling. The kit is also supplied with laser cut planked plywood floors and vinyl decals for that finishing touch.
Further detailing can be added in the form of scale buffers, which we offer as an extra cost item.
