Cattle Wagon Information

Introduced in the 1930’s more than 1300 Cattle wagons were built and were a common sight on the network until the late 1950’s. When livestock movements fell to road transport, disposal was rapid and final with most cattle wagons being burned. Very few survive today, however most people are aware of them due to the popularity of the OO gauge Airfix kit. The cattle wagons had resurgence in model form in the sixties and are still offered by most major companies in HO and OO. The Phoenix version is available in both 5” and 7¼” Gauge.
