Iron Ore Tippler Information
Nearly 10,000 of these sturdy wagons were made for BR. They are very similar to the 16ton mineral wagon; but had a simpler body with a sturdier under frame. They were unloaded on special jigs that rotated the wagon through 180 degrees tipping the contents, hence the name, Tippler. Iron Ore traffic examples were also used to transport Coal, Sand and Chalk, the absence of doors minimising losses through leaks! Later examples also carried stone and mould ingots were transported on a bed of ballast.
The Phoenix Iron Ore Tippler can be modelled in any of the configurations. Makes a great tender for your loco in either gauge. The 7¼" gauge version can be used as a ride on wagon.
