Y6 Tram Information
The original tram locomotive of the GER Wisbech and Upwell Tramway was an 0-4-0 steam engine, however Tramway regulations required that the locomotive shouldn't distress animals. The loco's were clad in what looked like a variation of a guards van built with teak planks and fitted with condensing gear and speed governors. The original GER designation was Class G15, this was changed to Y6 when LNER took over the grouping.
We were fortunate to have access to the original T.W. Worsdell drawings and based our Y6 as closely as possible to them.
The exterior grade plywood body is laser cut to replicate the original plank detailing and multi layered frames. The accuracy of laser cut panels also make the body a simple and straightforward build as each panel is notched to fit. Additional detailing is provided by separate window frames and panelling provided.
The chassis is a robust laser cut steel construction, which comes fully welded.
The Y6 uses the same well-developed and proven drive system as the Hesketh Loco and makes a very substantial 7.ΒΌ" gauge engine.
We built our Y6 (the one in the picture) in five days including all painting.
