Supplied by British Electric Vehicles (Wingrove & Rogers) Churchtown Works, Southport. The two battery electric locos were delivered on 21st March1921. Numbered 312 and 313 the locos were painted deep scarlet with cream panels. Polar Bear suffered a derailment and was withdrawn. Sea Lion continued in service until 1926 when she was withdrawn probably because she required a new battery. A replica Polar Bear was built by Alan Keef in 2004 with their works number 72R. That loco used an existing Wingrove & Rogers chassis from Locomotive 5568001.
The Phoenix Locomotives Polar Bear and Sea Lion is available in 7.25" Gauge as a bolt together kit. It is a very compact loco at 937mm (38.4in) long. It has a very useful wheelbase of 245mm (9.64in) Handy for the tight curves on a garden railway. Although it is a small loco, we have ensured it does not lack the power to haul a good train of passengers. Two 750watt 24v motors give the loco 2HP and when combined with an all up operating weight of over 112Kg (247lbs). You have a powerful package ready to haul passengers at the flick of a switch. The loco is supplied in the deep scarlet livery with cream panels and either Polar Bear or Sea Lion livery.
