Phoenix Locos

A Very Busy Autumn

We have had a very busy autumn season with Locos departing for Germany, Holland, Australia and all over the UK. We have managed to get two new Locos into production and get them to the Model Engineer Exhibition at Sandown Park. The Vale of Ffestiniog loco is the largest loco we have produced (so far....) and The Tug is the smallest sit-on loco in our range.Full details and pricing can be found in our products section.

A 5" gauge Vale of Ffestiniog will be introduced early in 2014. The feedback from the exhibition has also added a further version of the Tug which will be available unpowered to allow builders to add their own petrol or diesel engine.

Guildford Rally Update

Unassembled Comet 5

Collected the new 5" gauge Comet from the laser profilers last Friday. They cut the metal and fold it with a CNC press so all the parts fit nicely together. We do have to deburr the holes and the occasional tag where the laser lifts off the metal. This is the promised pile of sheet metal that has been deburred and checked and will be built up to test panel fit etc. The software we use does check panel fit and hole alignment but there is nothing quite like seeing the new loco in the metal for the first time!

Guildford Rally

Nearly time for the Guildford Rally (20/21st July). I have been laid up with Sciatica for last three weeks, so deadlines are looming to get customer orders completed. However we are determined to have something new to show at Guildford. So we shall bring the new 5" gauge Comet. Keep a watch on this column and you will see the loco progress from a pile of laser cut steel into a nice blue 5” gauge locomotive, before it finally arrives for its debut at the Guildford Rally.

Ringing the changes

To celebrate our new website we have introduced two new locos to the range. The Scooter is a ride on auto trolley style loco, which can carry the driver and can also be configured as a two-person tram. This simple, robust design can also be used to haul passengers or freight on tight radius tracks in the garden or at the club. You can read the full story on the Scooter by clicking here

The newest addition to the range is The Comet, initially available in 7¼” gauge. The all steel construction comes finished in the colour of your choice and can be built without any special tools or engineering knowledge in a weekend. The loco will make its first public appearance at the Narrow Gauge North Show on Saturday 9th March. Take a look at the specification and the pictures of Comet No 1 in the gallery.

The new web site design allows us a lot more flexibility. The last design had evolved through a number of iterations as the company expanded, adding new products to the range, and increasing the amount of information we make available. We had finally reached a point where we were outgrowing the design, and the code behind it that makes the whole site work.
